Globally considered the key color that represents new beginnings, purity, health, and freshness, energy, money and rebirth, green has been traditionally associated with brands that encourage growth, vitality, and productivity
Green takes on many personalities in nature. From soothing, calm, fresh to vivid, dark, intense, mossy, mystical.
In bigger cities, the green urban movement has been given the attention it deserves by creating more rooftop gardens, bike lanes, and hiking trails in order to create peaceful and tranquil spots of nature so people can evade the concrete jungle and disconnect and reconnect to nature.
Gentle, invigorating, and relaxing, green also represents connection. Connection to ourselves, to the quiet moments in our lives, to the inevitable beauty and peace of nature itself.
In the world of Interior Design, green is often considered a neutral. It is hard to find a color that doesn’t work with any shade of green and it pairs very well with many colors, whether you want a monochromatic all blue and green palette or vibrant when paired with orange, pink and/or yellow!
Along with the right blue, green is the perfect hue for a soothing doctor’s office or a home office. Some of my favorite greens are Vale Mist 1494 from Benjamin Moore for an office or a bedroom. I try and avoid minty greens as much as I can and will only use it if it is part of the actual Color Design plan
Hancock Green HC-117 Ben Moore or Honeydew SW6428 which is from the Sherwin Williams fan deck are both beautiful colors for a soft but still energetic color in a kid’s playroom!
However, as soothing and pleasant as green could be, it is said to be avoided when creating color schemes for the interior of boats, cars, and airplanes, due to the fact that some people suffer from severe motion sickness.
Just like any color, even green can have a dirty side to it. Instead of me explaining it to you, look at the negative images below associated with green.
In case you are wondering about the car, this is how the story goes.
“In 1910, Lee Oldfield was driving a green car in a race at the New York State Fair in Syracuse. His car went off the track and killed several bystanders. Ten years later, in 1920, Gaston Chevrolet (brother of Louis Chevrolet, the car company founder) was killed in a crash during an automobile race in Beverly Hills, California. The car he was driving happened to be green. Thus, according to legend and superstition, this pair of events means that green race cars are indeed unlucky” Why are green cars considered unlucky?
That’s enough of the negative effects and emotions of green!
It has far more positive attributes! From a physiological perspective, the color green has a very stimulating effect on the sympathetic NERVOUS SYSTEM. It stimulates the pituitary gland, which translates to relieving stress in the blood vessels when Color Therapy is applied and it is also said to help dissolve blood clots and strengthens the immune system.
Besides all the positive effects on our bodies and psychological feelings, green is a fabulous color to use as a Call to Action button!
Have you noticed how many websites use a vibrant, clean energetic green to ask you to “Click here, book there and please call us now? ”
And by now we all have been condition to know that green is associated with the “Save our Planet “ movement. Logical choice!
With all the continuous, consistent bad news about global warming, dying oceans, and endangered animals flooding us on a daily basis, it becomes more and more important for all of us to
THINK GREEN!
So why don’t we all commit to plant at least one or two trees on or even before National Arbor Day day (April 30, 2021) and do something feel-good for our planet, our homes, and ultimately just for our own well-being? Nothing is more satisfying than nurturing something beautiful and watch it grow!
